Üstün Ergüder is a Turkish professor in political science and rector of Bosporus University.

Career

Ergüder graduated from Robert College in 1957, and completed his undergraduate education in 1961 at Manchester University, Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences[1]. He received his PhD in political science from Syracuse University.[2]

He started his academic career at Boğaziçi University in 1969. Between 1979-1981, he was Director of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Institute of Applied Research, between 1982-1983 Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, between 1978-1981 and 1986-1989 Director of the School of Foreign Languages, between 1989-1992 Political Science and International Relations Department, and between August 1992 and August 2000, he served as rector for two terms.

After his tenure as the Rector , he taught at Sabancı University and became the Director of the University's Istanbul Policy Center.

He was President of the Robert College Alumni Association. He was elected as a member of the Magna Charta Observatory Council for Academic Freedom and Institutional Autonomy in Bologna, Italy, in 2004, and president for a four-year term in 2009[2].

He was chairman of AIESEC Turkey Board of Advisors[3], Chairman of the Board of Education Reform Initiative, Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Third Sector Foundation of Turkey (2000-2016)[4], and Member of Özyeğin University Board of Trustees.

He has served or has held positions such as Board Member of the Vehbi Koç Foundation and the Aydın Doğan Foundation

He is also the father of actress Canan Ergüder.
