Arne Olav Brundtland was a Norwegian "security" academic married to former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland.
Career
Brundtland worked as a political scientist and researcher at the government strategy think tank Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute (NUPI), which is an extension of the military Norwegian Intelligence Service. He is married to former three time Norwegian Prime Minister and big pharma lobbyist, Gro Harlem Brundtland. She was a leading politician in the Norwegian Labour Party, while he is a Conservative[1].
He was a fellow at the deep state environment Center for International Affairs, founded by Henry Kissinger, at Harvard from 1963-65.[2] Every year, it hosts approximately fifteen fellows, at least three of whom are from the three major branches of the United States Armed Forces. His wife, future PM of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland, took her degree at Harvard at the same time.
When the intelligence agencies in Norway were under increased parliamentary focus in 1993, he was one of the few to argue that parliament should not be able to scrutinize the intelligence agencies.[3]
Publications
He has written a number of works on European security policy and on relations with the Soviet Union. He has been particularly concerned with arms control.
Insider trading
The company "Analytisk Kommentar A/S" was founded in 1986 by prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland and Arne Olav Brundtland and their children to engage in stock speculation and sell commentary articles. It was never registered in a proper regulatory manner. And by 1990, the company had not submitted a single financial statement. Nor had it reported any changes in the business area, capital increase, new board composition or new business manager. The case was never properly explored by Norwegian media, but there would be very few stock transactions under the auspices of the company that would not clash with insider trading laws, given her political position. The Prime Minister's spouse also used it to sell syndicated commentary activities, again raising the possibility of insider knowledge, or indirect financial payoffs to the PM.[4][5]
