Martin A Lee co-founded Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting.

Education and career

Lee has an undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Michigan. He has been a guest teacher-in-residence at the University of Illinois and has lectured at many colleges and universities, including Harvard University, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Johns Hopkins University, and the American University of Paris. In 1994 he was given the Pope Foundation Award for Investigative Journalism.[1]

Lee was a co-founder of the media watch group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), a group formed in 1986 to combat perceived corporate and establishment media bias. He was the first full-time editor of FAIR's magazine Extra!, and later served as the publication's publisher.[2]

Lee's first book, Acid Dreams: The CIA, LSD and the Sixties Rebellion (co-authored with Bruce Shlain), was published in 1985 by Grove Press. Covering LSD's use by both the counterculture of the 1960s and by the CIA in mind control experiments.[3]

Lee's second book, Unreliable Sources: A Guide to Detecting Bias in News Media (co-authored with Norman Solomon), was both a distillation and expansion of his work with FAIR. Published in 1990 by Lyle Stuart, it examines the many small, subtle ways the mainstream corporate press distorts the news, often by reporting only part of it, where reporters fail to ask the questions they must to uncover the truth, telling us instead whatever those in power want us to believe.

Lee's third book, The Beast Reawakens, an in-depth examination of the resurgence of fascism, was published by Little, Brown in 1997; a revised paperback edition was issued by Routledge in 2000. In the book, the author discusses old-guard fascists' strategy for survival and the revival of fascism since 1944.[4] Special attention is given to ODESSA actions during the Cold War, international fascist networks, and political inroads to the right-wing mainstream. The book opens with a quotation from T. E. Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom (1922), a favorite of Hitler's favorite commando, SS-Standartenführer Otto Skorzeny.

How the CIA targets powerful hierarchies for infiltration and influence. The Roman Catholic Church's claim to be the one and only authentic 'Church of Christ on Earth' does not exempt them from exploitation by deep politicians. This article powerfully demonstrates both the Catholic Church's power and its susceptibility to the machinations of Mammon. As they say in South America, "When the CIA goes to church, it doesn't go to pray."
