Yasuchika Hasegawa was been Chairman and CEO of Takeda Pharmaceutical since 2009 and the Keizai Doyukai (Japanese association of CEOs). He was chairman of the Asia-Pacific group of the Trilateral Commission.

Background

Yasuchika was born in Nagato in June 1946. After graduating from high school in Fukuoka, he was admitted to Waseda University. He graduated in 1970 in political economy.

Career

He was hired at the end of the university by Takeda Pharmaceuticals in positions, successively, of human resources, management, and international relations.

In 1986 he became president of the German branch of Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Two years later he became President of Takeda Pharmaceutical Europe. In June 2003, he was appointed director of the company. Once president, he encourages a policy of diversification of the company's recruitment, and promotes the acquisition of foreign companies. It launches waves of recruitment of foreign executives of rival companies, benefiting from higher salaries.

Thanks to the company's positive results, his compensation rose from 223 million yen in 2009 to 301 million in 2012, before reaching 450 million in 2015. He resigned from his post at the general meeting of shareholders of Takeda Pharmaceutical Industry on June 28, 2017, becoming a consultant for the company.
