Background

Career

Document:The Institute for Statecraft Expert Team v 3 describes him as a part of the resident team in HQ in 2 Temple Place, London: "Retired in May 2018 as Senior Counter-Disinformation Officer at the Global Engagement Center at the U.S. Department of State. He has 20 years of experience in analysing and countering Soviet, Russian, Iraqi and other disinformation, conspiracy theories and urban legends at the State Department, the U.S. Information Agency (USIA), and the Department of Defence. He has written a variety of related papers and has broad media commentary experience."

He is the author of the America.gov blog "Rumors, Myths and Fabrications". [1].

The blog was an integral part of the US government sponsored host site's attempts at conspiracy theory debunking under the heading "Conspiracy Theories and Misinformation" [2]

The blog "about page" describes Leventhal as:

..... the Department’s expert on conspiracy theories and misinformation — stories that are untrue, but widely believed.
