Themistocles Vokos is a London-based Greek shipping journalist, editor and business conference organizer.[1]
Career
He started his career as a journalist in 1957. He worked for the Greek maritime weekly Naftiliaki and as a foreign correspondent for a number of newspapers and publications, contributing articles to the Financial Times, The Sunday Times, Lloyd's List and other journals.
He is a founding member of the international maritime exhibition Posidonia and the founder in 1970 of The Seatrade Organisation in the UK, Seatrade magazine and the Seatrade Academy in Cambridge, followed by the establishment of a number of companies involved in publishing, trade fair organising, management training and market research.[2]
After his first trip to China in 1979, Vokos was one of the pioneers active in the emerging market of China. In collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of communications, he founded in 1983 two Chinese-language magazines,Maritime China and China Transport, followed by the publication of Medical China, in cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Health. These publications were widely circulated throughout the Chinese territory, creating at that time a bridge of communication between China and the 'outside' world. Under the auspices of these magazines, a series of business conferences were organized in the 1980s in collaboration with figures such as Henry Kissinger.[3]
