Odvar Nordli was a Norwegian politician from the Labour Party. He was the 28th prime minister of Norway from 1976 to 1981 during the Cold War.^[1] Before serving as Prime Minister, Nordli served as the minister of Local Government from 1971 to 1972.

After his time as prime minister, Nordli served as the vice president of the Storting from 1981 until 1985, and was also a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee from 1985 until 1996.

Resignation

In his 1981 New Years speech Prime Minister Nordli, spoke about a Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone in the Nordic countries The US Secretary of State Alexander Haig "hit the roof", the aid to Norway's Foreign Minister told Ola Tunander. The Norwegians were on a "slippery slope", according to one British Foreign Office document. One had to speak harshly with the Norwegians, and the Swedesunder Olof Palme were even worse. Nordli left office a month later, ^[2] citing "health problems", being replaced by Gro Harlem Brundtland^[3].
