Spanish "inner circle" business executive who attended Bilderberg/2019. |
Javier Monzón is an "inner circle" Spanish business executive who attended the Bilderberg for the first time in 2019, as chairman of PRISA, "one of the most important education and media groups in the Spanish-speaking world, present in 23 countries".[1]
Monzón could be considered a member of what the sociologist Michael Useem defined in the eighties as the inner circle, or central circle of the business world: a group of leaders who accumulate so many boards directorships and key social positions that they become kind of responsible for a private state, one that through its foundations and think tanks claims the free market but that, in practice, counts on public money as one of its main sources of benefits. Monzón's key positions and contacts would allow him to jump from one top stock market company to another without having to leave this dense capitalist network.
The strategic importance of his social position rhymes with key personal contacts: firstly, his friendship with the now emeritus king, crown of the Spanish power elite in the past decades; secondly, with the proximity to former PM Felipe González[2].
