Giovanni Battista Scaglia was an Italian politician for the Christian Democratic party who attended the 1964 Bilderberg meeting. In addition to his many years of political career, Scaglia has written various specialist books on the life and work of personalities such as Cesare Balbo and Niccolò Machiavelli.
Education
Giovanni Battista Scaglia completed his studies in humanities, and then worked as a teacher.
Political career
On June 1, 1948, he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei deputati) for the first time in the first legislature in the province of Brescia for the Christian Democratic party.[1] In the second legislative period, he was first secretary of the Foreign Affairs Committee (II Commissione (Affari Esteri)) between 1 July 1953 and 19 January 1954. He then took up his first government post and became undersecretary at the Ministry of Public Instruction (Sottosegretario alla Pubblica Istruzione) in the Fanfani I Cabinet from 19 January to 10 February 1954,[2] in the Scelba Cabinet between 11 February 1954 and 6 July 1955,[3] in the Segni I cabinet from 9 July 1955 to 19 May 1957[4] and in the Zoli Cabinet between 23 May 1957 and 1 July 1958.[5][6]
Also in the following third legislative period, Scaglia continued to be undersecretary in the Ministry of Public Instruction in the Fanfani II Cabinet between July 3, 1959 and February 15, 1959[7] and in the Segni II cabinet from February 19 to December 15, 1959.[8][9] In the fourth legislative period, he sat in the Moro II Cabinet from July 22, 1964 to February 23, 1966, and then from February 23, 1966 to February 24. June 1968 in the Cabinet of Moro III as Minister without portfolio for relations with Parliament (Ministro senza portafoglio ai Rapporti con il Parlamento).[10][11][12]
In the fifth legislative period, Giovanni Battista Scaglia was Minister of Public Instruction (Ministro della Pubblica Istruzione) in the Leone II Cabinet between 24 June and 12 December 1968.[13] Later, he held the post of Minister of Tourism and Events (Ministro del Turismo e dello Spettacolo) in the Rumor II Cabinet from August 5, 1969 to March 27, 1970.[14] In this capacity, he opened the 1970 Alpine World Ski Championships, which took place in Val Gardena, Italy, from February 7 to 15, 1970. He was back again between February 17 and February 26. He became Minister of Tourism and Events in the Andreotti I Cabinet in June 1972.[15][16] Finally, he was a member of the Senate (Senato della Repubblica) in the sixth legislative period from May 25, 1972 to July 4, 1976.[17]
