Mats Johansson was Political Editor-in-Chief of the leading daily Svenska Dagbladet, CEO/Publisher of the free market think-tank Timbro, and MP for the conservative Moderate Party. He was mentioned as a person of interest for the Integrity Initiative, but died in 2017, before the Initative got off the ground.

Career

After working at Norrköping's Tidningar 1977-1978, he was Head of Information for the Moderate Party 1978-1979 and an worker at of the leading daily Svenska Dagbladet 1980-1985, in the years 1984-1985 as correspondent in Washington DC. He was CEO of the business think tank Timbro 1988 to 1995, before switching back and becoming political editor-in-chief of Svenska Dagbladet again from 2000 to 2003.

Johansson was member of parliament from October 2006 to September 2014, for the conservatie Moderate Party. He was a member of the Culture Committee and Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as chairman of the Riksdag's (parliament's) Baltic network.

Mats Johannson founded the Stockholm Free World Forum in 2011. As a Standing Rapporteur in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe 2011-2013 he published a report about The State of Media Freedom in Europe. As chairman of the Swedish parliamentary network for the Baltic states he was decorated by the republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.[1]

In 2015 he started the Stockholm Free World Forum’s Foreign Policy Academy, creating an educational unit of the think-tank for students and young politicians and serving as its first principal. He also returned to journalism as a columnist in various papers and magazines.

He was also a member of The Mont Pelerin Society.

He has published a number of books, including The new Cold War. Where does Russia go? (2008), Cold War 2.0. Russia rearms (2013) and Cold War 2.1 - The Return of the Evil Empire (2015).
