The Global Preparedness Monitoring Board describes itself as "an independent monitoring and advocacy body".[1]

Origins

In May 2018 the WHO and World Bank Group set up the GPMB.[2]

Own words

In its September 2019 report, the GPMB stated that the "goals of the Board are to:

  • assess the world’s ability to protect itself from health emergencies;
  • identify critical gaps to preparedness across multiple perspectives;
  • advocate for preparedness activities with national and international leaders and decision-makers."[3]

Leadership

The co-chairs as of early 2020 were Gro Harlem Brundtland and Elhadj As Sy.

Funding

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, Resolve to Save Lives and the German Government.
