The Council on Geostrategy (CoG) is a non-profit think tank based in Westminster, London, England. It was founded in March 2021 by James Rogers, the director of research, and Viktorija Starych-Samuolienė, the director of strategy. The CoG focuses on shaping HM Government's foreign and defence policy in an "international environment characterised by geopolitical competition and environmental crisis".[1]

Funding

The CoG receives funding from defence industry companies BAE Systems, Boeing, Leonardo UK, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and Thales. It receives funding from the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, UK Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy.

Defence Pledge

The CoG published a Defence Pledge in April 2024 calling on all political parties to pledge 2.5% spending on defence in their manifesto. The Pledge received 30 signatures from senior Parliamentarians, Committee Chairs, former Defence Secretaries, and former leaders of the British Armed Forces.

Paul Mason

On 6 January 2025, Matt Kennard posted on X:

"Paul Mason is now an Associate Fellow at the Council on Geostrategy, a “think-tank” funded by UK Ministry of Defence, Royal Navy, Modi’s India + pretty much every major arms dealer in the West: BAE, Raytheon, Leonardo, Northrup Grumman, Lockheed Martin et al.

"Perfect rest home."[2]
