Arne Olav Brundtland worked as a political scientist and researcher at the government strategy think tank Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute (NUPI). He is married to former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland. She was a leading politician in the Labour-party, while he is a Conservative.
He was a fellow at the deep state Center for International Affairs, founded by Henry Kissinger, at Harvard from 1963-65. Every year, it hosts approximately fifteen Fellows, at least three of whom are from the three major branches of the United States Armed Forces. His wife, future PM of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland, took her degree at Harvard at the same time.
He has written a number of works on European security policy and on relations with the Soviet Union. He has been particularly concerned with arms control and has been a visiting scientist at Harvard University on this topic.
