Arne Olav Brundtland worked as a political scientist and researcher at the government strategy think tank Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute (NUPI). He is married to former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland. She was a leading politician in the Labour-party, while he is a Conservative.
He has written a number of works on European security policy and on relations with the Soviet Union. He has been particularly concerned wi arms control and has been a visiting scientist at Harvard University on this topic.
