Elena Ethel "Elly" Schlein is an Italian politician and leader of the Democratic Party (PD).
Background
Her father, Melvin Schlein, was Assistant Director of the Bologna Center of the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University from 1969 to 1973.[1]
In 2008 and 2012, Schlein, a US/Italian/Swiss citizen, volunteered on Barack Obama's two presidential campaigns in the United States.[2]
