Career
She was very active in the movement against the Vietnam War, and organized the first international meetings between American citizens and Vietnamese representatives. She was a columnist for Europe at the American weekly In These Times from 1979 to 1990, continuing thereafter to work as a correspondent for the magazine[1]. She was press attaché for the European parliamentary group of the Greens from 1990 to 1996.
In 1985, she published her first book The Politics of Euromissiles: Europe's Role in America's World. In her second book Fools' Crusade: Yugoslavia, Nato, and Western Delusions, published in 2005, she took a critical look at the war in Yugoslavia, analyzing the dominant corporate media tale constructed to justify the NATO assault on the Balkans.
Her book Hillary Clinton, Queen of Chaos dissected Clinton's bloodier foreign policy history, both in the Senate where she was an ardent supporter of George W Bush’s War on Iraq and then as Secretary of State under Obama, starting wars and regime changes. All of this is in service of making her President.[2]
Johnstone was one of many writers banished from Counterpunch around 2017, when the site changed editorial policy.
