JFK assassination
In January 2004, E. Howard Hunt gave a taped interview claiming that Lyndon Johnson instigated the JFK assassination, and that the key organisers were David Atlee Phillips, David Sánchez Morales, Cord Meyer and Frank Sturgis.[1]
House Select Committee on Assassinations lies
When he testified before the House Select Committee on Assassinations on 25th April, 1978 he denied he ever used the name 'Maurice Bishop' or that he had ever met Antonio Veciana.[2]
Retirement from public office
During the increased attention given to the activities of the CIA, Phillips officially retired in 1975 to found the Association of Former Intelligence Officers. This worked as a counter to criticism of the United States intelligence agencies from the media and the U.S. Congress. A large proportion of deep state operatives left the CIA around this time, to carry out operations independently.
