Borzou Daragahi is an Iranian-American print and radio journalist, who as of 2020 was International Correspondent for The Independent. He was previously a correspondent for BuzzFeed News and The Financial Times. He also worked as the Baghdad bureau chief for the Los Angeles Times.
He was mentioned as a possible contact for the Integrity Initiative's Turkish cluster.[1] He speaks "a little [..]Turkish".[2]
He is a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council's Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security.[3]
Career
Before joining the Los Angeles Times in 2005, he was a freelance journalist for a number of publications and radio outlets. He covered the build-up to the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq for the Associated Press, before moving to Iraq itself, working for the Los Angeles Times.
He covered the 2006 war in Lebanon, the 2008 war in Georgia, the 2009 uprising in Iran, the chaotic consequences of the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Syria, and the 2014 rise of the Islamic State and subsequent wars to defeat it. [4]
In April 2015, Daragahi joined BuzzFeed News as a new Middle East reporter. He joined The Independent in September 2018.
