Carl Johan Åberg was a Swedish economist , associate professor , civil servant and politician[1].

Åberg was employed at the Ministry of Finance 1967-1976, defended his dissertation in 1971[2], was an economist in the Social Democratic parliamentary group 1977-1980, editor-in-chief of Aftonbladet 1980-1982, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Trade Department) 1982-1989, Governor of Västmanland County 1989-1990 and CEO for the 1st-3rd AP Pension Funds 1991-1996. He was appointed by the Swedish government as chairman of the Stockholm School of Economics' Executive Board, the Stockholm School of Economics' highest executive body, 1991–2002.

Åberg wrote several books, including A difficult pastorate: How to renew Swedish politics? (1997)[3] and Stories from the 20th Century (2006).[4] He was elected in 1988 as a member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences .
