Jens Kampmann is a Danish official, Social Democratic politician, former Minister and Director of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. He was a Member of Parliament 1966-1978.
Early Life
Jens Kampmann is the son of Denmark's Prime Minister Viggo Kampmann. He graduated in 1955 and became a B.Sc. at the University of Copenhagen in 1962. [1]He was then an official at the Danish Ministry of Education (1962-1964) and the Ministry of Finance (1964-1971).[1] During the 1960s he was also involved in the Frit Forum (1964-1965), the student organization of the Danish Social Democrats, and the Social Democratic Society faction (1965-1968), as well as editor of the party's magazines Verdens Gang (1968-1970) and Ny Politik (1970-1971). He was also a board member of the Danish Society for Nature Conservation (1970-1971).
Parliament
Kampmann was elected to the Folketing in 1966. In connection with the Social Democrats regaining government power in 1971, he was appointed Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment. Among other things, he presented the Perspective Plan Regulation (PPII), which was a plan for how the infrastructure would be developed in Denmark by 1987. This plan meant reduced investments in the expansion of the motorway network and higher prioritization of public transport, as a result of the oil crisis in 1973. He was also one of the driving forces behind the establishment of an independent Ministry of the Environment. After the government resigned in December 1973, he became a regular member of parliament again. He was then Minister of Taxation 1977-1978. He was forced to abandon his plans for a tax reform with deduction clearance and left politics in 1978. [1]
Kampmann was then director of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (1978-1990) and Invest Miljø A / S (1990-2006).[2] He became chairman of the Kattegat Committee in 2009, which works for a permanent connection across the Kattegat between Zealand and Jutland. [2]
