Hendrik Nicolaas (Han) Boon was a Dutch historian and diplomat. He came from a wealthy Rotterdam merchant family and held top positions in the diplomatic service for many years. He was at the center of Western security policy in the 1960s as a permanent representative to NATO.[1]

Career

  • Boon was political adviser to Dutch East Indies governor Van Mook (December 1946-June 1947), and as head of the political affairs directorate (December 1947-June 1949). He wrote Indonesische Dagboeknotities about his experiences
  • Acting Secretary General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1 June 1949 to 1 January 1950
  • Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1 January 1950 to 1 November 1952
  • Ambassador to Rome, also accredited to the Republic of Malta, from 1970 to 1976 (appointed November 1970)
