Canadian double Bilderberger director of Canada's biggest meat packing company, in the process of international expansion (with limited success); as was the topic of the 1968 Bilderberg meeting.

William Flavelle McLean was a Canadian business executive who ran the family company Canada Packers, the country's biggest meat packing company from 1954 until 1982. The company was in the process of becoming multinational (with limited success) when McLean attended the 1968 Bilderberg meeting, where one of the topics was Internationalization of Business. He also attended the 1972 Bilderberg meeting.

Activities

He served with Royal Canadian Air Force 1942-1946.

Director and Vice-President 1950, Executive Committee 1952 at meat packing company Canada Packers Inc. He took over after his father as President of the company and worked 1954-1978 as Chair, and Chief Executive Officer 1978-1982.[1][2]

In the 1960s the company purchased meatpackers in England, West Germany, and Australia and set up trading companies in London and Hamburg. Trading operations with the United States also grew, as did its interest in Southeast Asia. By 1969 exports exceeded $145 million, nearly 16.5% of company sales. Despite inflationary stress and an increasingly competitive climate in the meatpacking industry, the company continued to increase capital spending. Between 1970 and 1977 Canada Packers spent $137 million on expanded facilities. It also increased its overseas presence by purchasing two more Australian meat processors.[3]
