Theresa Tam is a Canadian physician and public servant who currently serves as the chief public health officer of Canada, who is the second-in-command of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).[1]
Tam has played a leadership role in Canada's implementation of the COVID-19 agenda.
She suggested wearing a face mask during sex "particularly if there is close contact", to protect yourself from catching the coronavirus, adding that going solo remains the lowest risk sexual option in a pandemic.[2]
Early life and education
Tam was born in British Hong Kong and grew up in the United Kingdom.[3] She attended medical school at the University of Nottingham, earning a BMBS 1989. In 1996, She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Alberta, and in 1997, a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at University of British Columbia.[4][5][6]
Since 1996, Tam has been a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.[4]
