Regina Veronica Maria (Renée) Jones-Bos is a former Dutch diplomat and civil servant. She was ambassador for the Netherlands to the United States and Russia, and from 2011-2016 she was Secretary-General (the highest position) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As of May 1, 2020, Renée Jones-Bos chairs the Intelligence and Security Services Act evaluation committee.
Education
After her secondary school education, Jones-Bos studied in Perugia (Italian, 1972), Antwerp (Russian, English, politics and economics - until 1976) and Sussex (Russia studies, 1977), focusing on international economics and the Soviet Union.[1]
Career
Jones-Bos worked as a freelance interpreter/translator at Interlingua, and then served as assistant to the agricultural counselor for the Netherlands Embassy in Moscow from 1979-1980. She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1981 and was posted at Dutch embassies in Dhaka and Paramaribo from 1982-1987.
From 1987-1990, Jones-Bos was first secretary at the Netherlands Embassy in Washington, DC, before serving as head of recruitment and training at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1990-1994. From 1994-1998, Jones-Bos was deputy chief of mission for the Netherlands Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic, and from 1998-2000, she was security council coordinator at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 2000-2003 she was Ambassador for Human Rights.
Washington was her first "real" ambassador's post 2008-2012.
On April 30, 2013, she held the office of Herald of Arms during the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam.
In 2016 Renée Jones-Bos was appointed Dutch ambassador to Russia. She retired in 2019.
As of May 1, 2020, Renée Jones-Bos will chair the Intelligence and Security Services Act evaluation committee.[2]
