Net zerois a concept within the climate change lobby. The idea means cutting greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible. The date mentioned for when this is to be achieved is often 2050.[2]

Graeme Maxton“If today’s political leaders are unable to do what is needed, then the options become harder still. Either nothing happens, and climate change becomes unstoppable, ruining the lives of billions, or the existing political leadership will need to be replaced, either through the electoral process or in some less democratic way. One alternative would be for a technocratic government to be appointed to do what is needed, to force an economic transition, and then step down when the job is done. But this assumes that humanity can develop the mechanisms to make such an exceptional change in governance happen, and that it possesses enough people of intellect and courage to manage the transition.”Graeme Maxton2021
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva“There are many other regional powers that can influence the course of history. Brazil stands out. The election of Lula at the end of last year was crucial.

On January 8th there was a coup attempt much like January 6th, 2021, in the US. Lula handled it masterfully and established his authority as president.

Brazil is on the front-line of the conflict between open and closed societies; it is also on the front-line of the fight against climate change. He must protect the rainforest, promote social justice, and reignite economic growth all at the same time.

He will need strong international support because there is no pathway to net zero emissions if he fails.”
