Navtej Singh Sarna is an Indian author, columnist, diplomat and former Indian Ambassador to the United States (2016-2018).[1] He was previously High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom (2016),[2] and the Ambassador to Israel (2008-2012).[3] He has published three novels and many short stories and essays of literary criticism.
Diplomat
Earlier in his career, Sarna served in various bilateral and multilateral diplomatic capacities in the Soviet Union, Poland, Bhutan, Geneva, Iran and Washington DC.
Sarna has also held several crucial positions at the Foreign Office in Delhi. He has the distinction of being the longest serving Spokesperson for India’s Foreign Ministry from 2002 to 2008.[4]
Columnist
Sarna has also contributed extensively to journals and newspapers in India and abroad including The Financial Times, Times Literary Supplement, The Hindu, Hindustan Times, etc. His literary columns written over seven years for The Hindu appeared as a book entitled 'Second Thoughts on Books, Authors and the Writerly Life.'
