James Douglas Gibson was a Canadian economist, banker and Chairman of Canadian Institute of International Affairs. He attended the 1961 Bilderberg meeting, the same year he was appointed Executive Vice-President and Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Nova Scotia.
Education
He was born in Toronto. He was educated at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto.[1]
Career
He started in the Bank of Nova Scotia, Toronto, in 1931. He became General Manager in 1959, Chief General Manager in 1961, and Executive Vice-President and Deputy Chairman in 1964.[1]
He resigned in 1965 and became a self-employed Economic and Financial Consultant.[1]
Other board positions
Of other board positions, he was Chairman of the Canadian Reinsurance Co, Eddy Match, Director at Imperial Life Assurance, Consumers Gas, Harding Carpets, Steel Corporation of Canada, National Trust, Bell Canada, North American Reinsurance, and N.A. Reassurance[1].
Gibson was member of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs (former Chairman); Canadian Political Science Association (former President); Canadian Chamber of Commerce (former Chairman, Ontario Section and Taxation Committee); and the Ontario Economic Council.[1]
He was Professor at the Faculty of Business Administration, York University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Queen’s University 1969-1975.
He was the author of numerous articles and one book.[1]
