Gillian Joanna Merron, Baroness Merron (born 12 April 1959) is a British politician serving as Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews since 2014. A member of the Labour Party, Gillian Merron was Member of Parliament (MP) for Lincoln from 1997 to 2010. She held a number of ministerial roles after May 2006, ending as Minister of State for Public Health from 2009 to 2010.

Peer Rage

In August 2016, the BoD's Gillian Merron strongly criticised Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s decision to nominate Shami Chakrabarti for a peerage, dismissing her report into antisemitism within the Labour Party as “something of a whitewash”.[1]

Peerage

In December 2020, Labour leader Keir Starmer nominated Gillian Merron for a life peerage. Baroness Merron said:

"I am very much looking forward to taking my place in the House of Lords.”[2]
