Yoav Gallant is an Israeli politician and retired military general. A member of the Knesset for Likud, he has served as Minister of Defence since 2022.
Yoav Gallant is a former commander of the Southern Command in the Israel Defence Forces. In January 2015, he entered politics, joining the new Kulanu party.
After being elected to the Knesset, he was appointed Minister of Construction. At the end of 2018, he joined Likud. Gallant also previously held the posts of Minister of Aliyah and Integration and Minister of Education.[1]
ICC arrest warrant
On 20 May 2024, an arrest warrant for Yoav Gallant, as well as for other Israeli and Palestinian leaders, was requested by the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan as part of the ICC investigation in Palestine, on several counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Israel-Hamas war.[2]
