In 1996, EIR wrote that: While the official line of the government is that the pedophile case and the André Cools murder are only "very indirectly" linked, nonetheless, many of those arrested in both affairs were: 1) leading members of the Socialist Party in Belgium's Wallonia region, and 2) members of the Masonic lodge in Liège. The latter is affiliated with the Grand Orient Lodge of Belgium, and has among its membership 40% of the top leaders of the Wallonia branch of the Belgian Socialist Party, as well as leading members of the elite of Wallonia and French-speaking Brussels. The Belgian lodge is affiliated with the Grand Orient Lodge of France; which is in turn dominated by the French Socialist Party.[1]
Carter Bussell, regarding the Dutroux case: "Another interesting point, which will be discussed later, is that there were a couple Grand Orient Freemasons among the clients of Les Atrebates. Jewish PRL politician Jean Gol, was one of them. Gol’s righthand, Francis Bursta, also attended the nightclub. The other Grand Orient Freemason at Les Atrebates was Léon Defosset, whose son-in-law would later bring Nihoul to Radio Activite as a DJ, in 1984, after Les Atrebates had been shutdown in 1983. Additionally, the father of Michel Vander Elst, Raymond, was a lawyer and member of the Grand Orient Lodge."[2]
