Franz-Joseph Schulze (18 September 1918 – 31 January 2005) was a highly decorated Oberleutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Franz-Joseph Schulze was captured by British forces in April 1945 and was held until October 1945. He joined the Bundeswehr in 1956 and was a NATO commander for Middle Europe 1977-79. He retired in 1979.
