UK academic who coined the term "omniwar" to describe the 2020s

Dr David A. Hughes is an academic turned activist and COVID-19/Dissident. He was active in exposing the COVID-19 event and is doubtful whether there was a "novel coronavirus" of any sort, never mind one which justified a slew of extraordinary and unprecedented (although well rehearsed) measures. He sees Covid as the opening salvo in a new class war which he terms "omniwar" to highlight its unrestricted nature.

Education

He received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Oxford University and holds doctorates in German Studies from Duke University and International Relations from Oxford Brookes University.

Career

He was Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Lincoln (UK).

9/11 paper

He published a paper on 9/11 in early 2020, 9/11 Truth and the Silence of the IR Discipline, for which he was shunned by a number academics, mainly on Twitter (no refutation with a countering publication, as could be considered customary in academia when there is criticism). It has more than 20k views, which is a high number in academic publishing (the paper only viewable through a fee-based subscription system) but is cited only a few times.

After 11 continuous years of full-time employment in academia, he left the profession in 2024.

Ideas

3 Camps Of Awareness

Starting in 2025 or 2026, David Hughes has been talking about 3 camps of awareness, highlighting the role of controlled opposition in preventing people from really understanding the nation of the frauds promoted by commercially-controlled media:

• Camp 1: "Normies", i.e. a belief in the truthfulness of commercially-controlled media, by and large if not completely
• Camp 2: Superficial dissent from the first camp, e.g. Faith in official opposition narratives, lead by (either knowing or unknowing) controlled opposition
• Camp 3: Independent thought, outside corralled channels of dissent, a deeper understanding of the nature and extent of the mendacity of commercially-controlled media, awareness of the role of the SDS in defining the patterns of thought of those in camp 1 & 2.

Independent media	“Camp 1 is for the "normies" who uncritically accept official narratives and generally believe whatever the legacy media tells them. Camp 2 is for those who have doubts about Camp 1. What they do not realise is that Camp 2 is just another holding pen. From the very beginning, it was designed to hoover up sceptics and contain dissent. Social media is, in that respect, a social containment mechanism. Camp 2 is led by well-known figures who dominate the "alternative media" scene. Their view counts tend to be artificially boosted by algorithms. Even when they are temporarily "cancelled," they emerge in a better position than they were before. Their role it is to win the trust of those in Camp 2, only to keep a lid on potential resistance in various ways. Although they tell the truth on certain issues, their purpose is ultimately malign, i.e., to distract and mislead dissenters, so that the ugliest truths (which underpin the power structure) do not enter into public consciousness. To the uninitiated, Camp 2 seems like a bold and courageous place full of freedom fighters. In reality, it is a hall of mirrors. Camp 3 is for those who are genuine about finding the truth and who pursue it in an authentic way. It does not claim to have "The Answers," but it at least strives for an honest approximation of the truth. Those in Camp 3 are banned, shadow-banned, and otherwise censored. The algorithms work against them. Those in Camp 3 are systematically targeted – by censorship, smear campaigns, harassment, lawfare, death threats, and even murder in extreme cases. The distinction between the three camps is not intended to be hard and fast. Individuals can move backwards and forwards between camps, depending on circumstance. For example, they may set foot in Camp 3, only to find that it is too uncomfortable and then retreat back to Camps 1 and 2.”
