Nils Jørgen Astrup was a Norwegian businessman and shipowner.

Background

Astrup was born in 1935, son of the shipping tycoon Nils Ebbessøn Astrup (an economic collaborator with Nazi Germany). He was a graduate of Balliol College at Oxford University.

Career

Astrup was chairman of a number of Norwegian companies, including the shipping company (oil tankers) Fearnley & Eger A/S (1977–1991), Orkla-Borregaard (1972–1991) and the silicone producer Elkem (1986–1987). In 1988-1989 he was president of the mighty Norwegian Shipowners' Association (a core element of Norwegian deep state and the ties to the United States and Britain)[clarification needed]. Fearnley & Eger A/S declared bankruptcy in 1991.

Connections
