Yevgeny Viktorovich Prigozhin was a Russian oligarch, mercenary leader, and close confidant of Russian president Vladimir Putin. Prigozhin was sometimes called "Putin's chef", as he owns restaurants and catering companies that provide services for the Kremlin.[1]
Death
According to the Russian Aviation Authority, Russian news agency TASS, and Wagner-aligned Telegram groups, Yevgeny Prigozhin was killed on 23 August 2023 when his Embraer jet aircraft en route from Moscow to St Petersburg crashed in the Tver region.
Wagner Orchestra, a Telegram channel, accused the Russian Military of shooting the plane down.[2][3]
