Roy Jakobs is Chief Executive Officer of Royal Philips. As CEO, he is also Chairman of the Board of Management and the Executive Committee. At the 2024 World Economic Forum Annual Summit, he was part of a panel on "Disease X.

Career

He started his career in 1998 at Shell where he worked until 2005 and moved to Elsevier where he worked for several years as managing director. From September 2010, he joined Philips as marketing director at Philips Lighting.

Subsequently, Jakobs was appointed as Middle East chief executive in 2011. In 2015, he moved within Philips to the home appliances division. The Personal Health division followed in October 2018. Philips makes diagnostic tools like MRI and ultrasound machines.[1] In February 2020, Jakobs started at the Connected Care division at the beginning of the corona "pandemic".[2][3]

Philips is on part of the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience. At the 2024 World Economic Forum Annual Summit, he was part of a panel on "Disease X", together with WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus,Shyam Bishen, Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice-Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd; Nisia Trindade, Minister of Health of Brazil, and Michel Demaré, Chair of the Board, AstraZeneca. Jakobs highlighted the importance of implementing and scaling digital solutions which could help to build more productive, sustainable and resilient health systems.
