Ian Frederic Hay Davison is a UK accountant.

Career

Ian Hay Davison trained as an accountant in the US. He returned to the UK in 1958 and joined the accounting and public services firm Arthur Andersen where he managed the rapid growth of the company. He went on to a number of high-profile regulatory roles, including chairman of the Accounting Standards Committee, Department of Trade & Industry inspector and member of the Audit Commission, before being asked by the Bank of England to become the Chief Executive and Deputy Chairman of Lloyd's of London.[1]

He was appointed a DTI Inspector, with Michael Sherrard QC, in 1974, to investigate the ramifications of the disappearance of John Stonehouse.[2]

Davison was a Director of The Independent from 1986 to 2004, and Chairman since 1993. He also held directorship at Cadbury Schweppes and Midland Bank.[1][3]

He also took on voluntary appointments including as trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum, chairman of the Sadler's Wells Foundation and president of the National Council for One Parent Families.[1]
