Craig Newmark Philanthropies, also known as the Craig Newmark Foundation, is a grantmaking organization launched by Craig Newmark, a billionaire businessman and the founder of the online marketplace Craigslist. According to Forbes, a large portion of the site's revenue comes from adult services listings.[1]
Activities
As of 2022, it was estimated that Newmark had given between $180 million and $200 million for journalism and fighting "disinformation".[2]
In 2021, Newmark supported a six-month study on "misinformation" and "disinformation" by the Aspen Institute's Commission on Information Disorder;[3] the establishment of the Institute for Rebooting Social Media at Harvard University;[4] the Reporters Without Borders Journalism Trust Initiative;[5] and provided funding to PBS NewsHour.[6]
