Ben J. Wattenberg was chief strategist for Senator Henry Jackson in the early 1970s. He initiated the formation of the Coalition for a Democratic Majority in December 1972, "to defend Cold War liberalism".[1]

In 1979 he attended the Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism, speaking on "A Politics of Freedom is the Answer".
