Hüseyin Semih Akbil was a Turkish diplomat. A former staff in the Washington embassy and the President's Chief of Staff, he was a spokesman for the Turkish government after the 1974 invasion of Cyprus when he attended the 1975 Bilderberg meeting.

Career

After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Law, he started his career in 1951 as a candidate professional officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of International Economic Affairs. He was Clerk (1956-1957), at the Washington Embassy, and Chief Secretary in the same embassy (1957-1962).

He became the President's Chief of Staff 1963-1965, Deputy Director General of Information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1971-1972, and Director General of Information (Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson) between 1972-1976.

He was Deputy Director General of Press, Broadcasting and Information at the Prime Ministry between 1972-1974, and was Ambassador in Rome, Brazil and Madrid. He worked in the Geneva Food and Agriculture Organization. While he was the Madrid ambassador, he was sent to Boston for pneumonia, where he died of heart failure during the treatment process. He is the brother of Ambassador Melih Akbil.
