Transatlantic Portuguese deep state actor and very close collaborator of Mário Soares. Attended 1983 Bilderberg.

Bernardino Gomes was a Portuguese politician and very close collaborator of Mário Soares. He attended the 1983 Bilderberg meeting.

Education

Bernardino Gomes graduated in Political Science from the University of Leuven in Belgium.[1]

Career

Bernardino Gomes was one of the 27 delegates present in Bad Munstereifel, Germany, who founded the Socialist Party (PS), on April 19, 1973 (under guidance of German deep state foundations). Following this and the revolution of April 1974, he played a discreet and crucial role in the installation and affirmation of the PS as a force of great influence in Portuguese society, but also in its international recognition, in a very active and fruitful collaboration with Mário Soares, of whom he was always a very close collaborator.[2]

He was director of the Office of studies and planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after April 25, 1974, and Chief of Staff for Mário Soares[3], and helped bring Portugal into the US sphere.[4][5].

An think-tanker in the area of international relations – in particular of the Atlantic aspect of Portuguese external relations, Bernardino Gomes also played an important role in the creation of the Luso-American Foundation for Development (FLAD), of which he would be administrator, making it a mainstay of the affirmation and consolidation of friendly relations between Portugal and the United States of America.[2]

In 1983, Gomes was vice chairman of the Foundation for International Relations,[6] at the NOVA University Lisbon.[7]
