Schweiger obtained a law degree from Zurich University.
Career
Since 1976 he has been a partner at the Schweiger Advokatur / Notariat law firm , which has now grown to twelve lawyers.
As a member of the Swiss Free Democratic Party (FDP), his political career began in 1970 when he was elected to the Zug Cantonal Council. He was a member 1970-1974 and then again from 1976 to 1994. From 1980 to 1994 he presided over the FDP parliamentary group.
Schweiger has represented the Canton of Zug in the Council of States since 1999.
