Career
Birkenfeld was a banker and then became a whistleblower.[2]
Sentence
Brad Birkenfeld was released from federal prison in August 2012 after being was imprisoned for 2½ years. In prison he met Scott Bennett in prison and they together pieced their stories together together.[2][3]
Legal settlement
He was awarded $104,000,000 as his share of the fraud he exposed.[3]

“The CIA I’m sure is behind this, in my opinion,” Birkenfeld said, “If you’ve got NSA and CIA spying on foreign governments they can certainly get into a law firm like this. But they selectively bring the information to the public domain that doesn’t hurt the U.S. in any shape or form. That’s wrong. And there’s something seriously sinister here behind this.”[1]
