Mustafa Akyol is a Turkish "young, pro-American moderate conservative"[1] journalist and writer. He wrote a book in 2011 arguing that Islam and liberalism can be applied together, that was praised by many transatlantic corporate media actors; and he attended the 2017 Bilderberg meeting.[1]
Education
He is the son of journalist politician and writer Taha Akyol. He completed his high school education at TED Ankara College, Nişantaşı Anatolian High School and Özel Tercüman High School. he graduated from Boğaziçi University in 1996.[2]
He prepared a master's thesis on the Origin of the Kurdish Problem at the Ataturk Institute for Modern Turkish History at Boğaziçi University. rethinking the Kurdish Problem by expanding this thesis in a 2006 book.He received positive reactions from many authors because of this book.[3][4][5]
Akyol writes articles on topics such as Turkey, the Islamic world, Islam and modernity; the Kurdish problem; science, religion and atheism; religion, the state and secularism, and his articles in English are published in newspapers and magazines such as The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and International Herald Tribune. Akyol, who is also the editor of the English-language Hürriyet Daily News newspaper, has published articles in Turkish on various topics in newspapers such as Radikal, Referent and Zaman.[6]
He is also a liberal who thinks that Islam and liberalism can be applied together.[7][8]
He was a Visiting fellow at The Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund in Washington D.C., Jan- Feb 2015.[9]
