The University of Utah is a public research university in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the flagship institution of the Utah System of Higher Education. The university was established in 1850 as the University of Deseret making it Utah's oldest institution of higher education.[1] It received its current name in 1892, four years before Utah attained statehood, and moved to its current location in 1900.[2]

Twenty-two Rhodes Scholars,[3] four Nobel Prize winners,[4][5][6][7] three Turing Award winners,[8][9][10] eight MacArthur Fellows,[11][12] various Pulitzer Prize winners,[13][14][15] two astronauts,[16][17] Gates Cambridge Scholars,[18] and Churchill Scholars have been affiliated with the university as students, researchers, or faculty members in its history.[19][20]
