Several Minister Presidents of Bavaria have been influential deep state actors, even deep politicians. |
The Minister President of Bavaria is traditionally dominated by the conservative Christian Social Union (CSU), which has won every election since 1945. Thanks to the safe conservative, Christian (Catholic) electoral base, several Minister Presidents of Bavaria have been influential deep state actors, even deep politicians.
This is due to no small part to the many multinational companies based in Bavaria, including Adidas, Allianz, Audi, BMW, Brose, BSH Hausgeräte, HypoVereinsbank, Infineon, KUKA, MAN SE, MTU Aero Engines, Munich Re, Osram, Puma, Rohde & Schwarz, Schaeffler, Siemens and Wacker Chemie.
In addition, Munich has since WW2 been a center for the Western intelligence operations. Until 2017, Pullach outside Munich was the HQ of the BND, the German foreign intelligence service founded by Reinhardt Gehlen. Also the CIA was very active, using Munich among other things as a base to run Eastern European exile groups and Radio Free Europe.
