Italian corporate newspaper

La Repubblica (Italian: the Republic) is one of the main Italian daily corporate newspapers. It is published by the Gruppo Editoriale and, along with Corriere della Sera, is one of the two major leading media in the country, and is nominally counted as "center-left".[1]

Omitting reporting on civilian casualties Gaza

In January 2024, the professor and author Raffaele Oriani stopped his collaboration with the Friday edition of Repubblica after 12 years, in protest against how the newspaper and much of the European press is not telling what is happening in Gaza:

Dear colleagues, I have been collaborating with the news magazine Repubblica for twelve years now and it is always a great honor to see the solid articles published in this splendid weekly. Yet I quit, because the ongoing massacre in Gaza is accompanied by the incredible reticence of much of the European press, including the Repubblica (today two families massacred is mentioned in the last line on page 15). I haven't understood for 90 days. Thousands of people die and are maimed, overwhelmed by a full of violence that it takes laziness to call war. I think we have rarely seen such a thing before everyone's eyes. And I think that all this has nothing to do with Israel, nor with Palestine, nor with geopolitics, but only with the limits of our ethical attitude. Maybe in some decades, many will wonder where we were, what we did, what we thought while tens of thousands of people ended up under the rubble. What happened on October 7 is the shame of Hamas, what happened since October 8 is the shame of us all. This massacre has a media escort that makes it possible. This escort is us. Having no chance to change things, with guilty delay I declare myself out.[2]

Daily Mirror“During the Bosnian War, the Daily Mirror reported that a Bosnian woman died "after being forced to give birth to a dog." Variations on this bizarre and biologically incredible story were carried also in Germany's Bild am Sonntag and Italy's La Repubblica, with lurid accounts of how fiendish Serbian gynecologists implanted canine fetuses in the woman's womb. The dog story was also embraced by an obscure West German parliamentary deputy, Stefan Schwarz, who gained instant fame by telling gruesome tales in the Bundestag about Serbian burnings, castrations, the roasting of children in ovens, and the use of poison gas.”
