Dr Jake Wallis Simons is Editor of the Jewish Chronicle, a Spectator writer, Sky broadcaster and Middle East watcher.[1] He was formerly Associate Global Editor at Mail Online and, as a foreign affairs reporter and commentator, he has contributed previously to publications such as The Times, The Guardian, BBC Radio 4, and The Daily Telegraph.[2]

Background

Jake Wallis Simons attended St Peter's College, Oxford and obtained a PhD in creative writing from the University of East Anglia.

EU 'breaking international law'

In February 2015, Jake Wallis Simons wrote a Mail Online article asserting that the European Union is 'breaking international law by funding illegal West Bank building projects'. The article referred to "an area supposed to be under Israeli jurisdiction" and "areas placed under Israeli control by the Oslo Accords". The article quoted a legal “authority” Alan Baker who is himself an illegal settler and Regavim, an Israeli NGO which claims Palestinian buildings were built illegally. [3]

Antisemitism debate

On 29 April 2016, Jake Wallis Simons participated in a live Sky Television debate on antisemitism with former diplomat Craig Murray.[4] A transcript is available on Craig Murray's blog.[5]

Starmer interview

On 7 April 2022, the Jewish Chronicle published Jake Wallis Simons' interview with Keir Starmer in which Starmer rejected the findings of Amnesty International that Israel is an apartheid state, and refused to say whether he thinks Jeremy Corbyn is antisemitic.[6]
