Career
In the 1980s he worked at Gordon Capital Corp. an investment banking and stock trading company "that rewarded aggression, thwarted tradition and functioned as an eat-what-you-kill meritocracy." during the 1980s boom years. Ron Lloyd, went on to run the Canadian arms of foreign dealers like Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse.
Lloyd joined Credit Suisse Canada in July 2005 from Merrill Lynch where he was Managing Director and President & Chief Operating Officer, Merrill Lynch Canada. Lloyd is a member of The Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators. Lloyd is Vice Chair, Director and Executive Committee member of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, the national SRO for the Canadian brokerage industry.[2]
When the company couldn't find an acquisition target that was a good fit, Credit Suisse decided to create a Canadian private banking unit from scratch. They started small, with just four employee advisers designated for the country. "We spent the better part of three years analyzing the Canadian market," said Ron Lloyd, head of Credit Suisse in Canada. "Our strategy here is a niche business, we're not trying to compete in the mainstream brokerage business that is clearly dominated by the big banks."
In 2006, Credit Suisse said it had begun to roll out a Canadian-based offering of investment advisory and other financial and estate planning services to the country's wealthiest business people, targeting individuals with more than $25-million in assets.[3]
