Pieter Korteweg is a Dutch economist. He was a member of the Bilderberg Steering Committee in the 1990s.

Education

Korteweg holds a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Career

From 1971 to 1981 he was Professor of Economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and Carnegie-Mellon University from 1973 to 1974. At that time, he was one of the few Dutch economists to defend the neoliberal ideas of Milton Friedman in the 1970s.

From 1981 to 1986 he was Treasurer General for the Dutch Treasury.[1] He was part of neoliberal networks where senior civil servants tended to play a decisive role: people like Frans Rutten, Lense Koopmans, Pieter Korteweg and Ad Geelhoed, who remained unknown to the public but who determined the policy at the ministries of Finance and Economic Affairs. An interesting similarity is that these top civil servants were all professors associated with Erasmus University.[2]

Korteweg was Chairman and CEO of the asset management firm Robeco Group from 1986 to 2001.

Korteweg joined the deep state Cerberus Capital Management in 2002, where he became director of the Cerberus affiliates in the Netherlands.[1]

Board positions

Korteweg has numerous board positions. Korteweg was as Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Central Bank, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Netherlands Pension and Insurance Authority, and Chairman of the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics. He also waas Member of the Board of Directors of SSA Global Technologies, Inc. (Chicago), non-executive Member of the Board of Aozora Bank Ltd. (Tokyo), and Member of the Governing Board of SONA, the Development Fund of the Netherlands Antilles.[1]
