Activities

In 2013 while working for Al Jazeera he was arrested for too close contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood and "broadcasting false news and reports of civil strife", and convicted to 7 years imprisonment.[1] This happened during the Arab Spring regime change period in Egypt. After intervention from the Australian and US government and a number of NGOs, Greske was released in 2015.[2]

In 2019 declared that "To be clear, Julian Assange is not a journalist, and WikiLeaks is not a news organisation."[3]

In 2023 called for greater regulation of the internet for "social good".[4]

He runs Advocacy & Action for Journalists' Freedom, working for the creation of a "Journalism Australia" association, "While this is not a complete solution to the problem of mis and disinformation...Crucially, membership of JA would help law enforcement agencies and the courts identify those journalists who deserve the presumption that their work is protected."[5]
